News Flash: Coronavirus Update
Posted on March 24, 2020
Ian Thomas, our Peace Corps Volunteer has been recalled to the US due to the Coronavirus. We will surely miss him as he has been responsible for setting up two Afafanto Girls Clubs with over 80girls! Thanks to his work, we will continue this program locally.
In Ghana, our NGO is helping to set up hand washing stations in the villages without running water.
While we are all cooped up around the world dealing with a pandemic, I am grateful that I was able to make it to Ghana in January and back again. I brought back with me such gratitude for the members of our NGO Board and the girls they service. Ghana is dealing with COVID-19. Emelia is busy setting up sanitary washing
stations in the rural villages where running water is scarce. Our girls are learning how to make and market soap. We are helping their efforts by carrying some of their wonderful, homemade soaps in our Online Shop.
It is such an eye opener to see how girls live in our country and though still the same age, how differently they live in other parts of the world. Yet, in many ways, teenage girls are the same all over the world. Same fresh and hopeful outlook on life. Right now they are also not in school. They must pass an exam to graduate and many will not pass this year.
